I use this website as a combination between a shelf and a sandbox: a place to post things where I can find them, and experiment with new technologies. It serves as an easy way to contact me, and has been somewhat more constant than my phone number or address over the years.
The site was created in 2001 (same year as Wikipedia) and before Facebook, YouTube, or Google Books. Though much of the functionality of information-sharing has been adopted by social networking sites, the site still serves as a convenient non-commercial "shelf" for friends and family.
